OPEN CALL

Kulturrummet invites artists to TAKEOVER the space for a short, solo exhibition in 2026. Think of it as being handed the keys for a brief moment — an opportunity to transform the room, test an idea, and meet an audience on your own terms.

What is TAKEOVER?
A series of short-format solo shows running 1 week to 10 days each. TAKEOVER is for artists who want to work with a compact timeframe, experiment with presentation, or show a focused body of work without committing to a long exhibition period.

We especially invite artists who want to experiment with the window as an exhibition surface — a street-facing display that stays visible from the outside, and invites passers-by into the work.

What we offer

  • The space at Kulturrummet (solo exhibition format)

  • Communication support (basic promotion across our channels)

  • Installation support (hands-on help during setup and hanging)

This open call is not externally funded, and we are unfortunately not able to offer artists fees or production costs. Selected artists are expected to self-produce their work and cover material, transport, and any fabrication costs. We recognize and value the work of artists, and we offer our space and resources to expand local opportunities, strengthening the infrastructure for artists with fewer chances to exhibit, test ideas, and build visibility.

we provide the exhibition space free of charge, communication support, access to tools and printing, and practical help during installation (Up to 1 day) — so the burden isn’t carried alone. When relevant, we can also support artists in identifying possible funding routes (e.g., with a letter of intent and confirmed dates).

We also welcome and encourage artists who have already received funding for their projects to use this opportunity and exhibit in the space free of charge.

Who we encourage to apply
We welcome proposals from artists working in any medium (visual art, design, installation, mixed media, sound, photo, text-based work, etc.). We especially encourage:

  • Emerging and young artists

  • Artists from queer and immigrant backgrounds

  • Artists with limited access to opportunities

  • Artists whose work engages topics relevant to Kulturrummet, such as social, political, environmental, and urban questions

Format & timing

  • Exhibition length: 7–10 days

  • Dates: scheduled across 2026 (exact slots agreed with selected artists)

  • Opening moment: vernissage / artist talk / informal meet-up

How it works
Selected artists will receive a confirmed exhibition slot and coordination support. You bring the work and the concept — we help you make it happen, and we amplify it.

Artists are not expected to be present daily; we coordinate routines, access, and any hosting needs together based on the exhibition format, availability, and what the work requires.

Apply using the application form with the following questions:

  • A short project description

  • Images of the work(s) you would like to show

  • Images of other/previous works

  • Technical needs and installation considerations

  • Short bio

  • Contact details

  • Preferred month(s) to exhibit (starting May 2026)

We will accept applications on a rolling basis until 8 March 2026, or until all spots are filled.
