Kulturrummet is an independent cultural and creative hub embedded in the neighborhood of Söder in Helsingborg, Sweden. Born out of the need for a local, self-organised space for art, dialogue, and collective learning, Kulturrummet brings together artists, cultural practitioners, and communities to imagine other ways of living, working, and being together, beyond institutional norms and hierarchies.
We curate, produce, and host programs that move between contemporary art, design, urban practices, and social engagement. As both a physical space and a curatorial proposition, Kulturrummet is grounded in values of care, accessibility, and co-creation. We experiment with formats that center everyday life, collective authorship, and situated knowledge.
Kulturrummet invites artistic and civic imagination to take space. It seeks to challenge the margins of geography, of discourse, of belonging, and to shape a more just and vibrant cultural landscape. Our programs unfold through curated experiments, creative collaborations, and situated responses to the urgencies of our time; social, urban, and environmental.
What we do
At Kulturrummet, we bring people together through art, design, and cultural programs that respond to the world around us. Rooted in collaboration, we create spaces for shared learning, creative expression, and collective action, connecting local voices with broader conversations on justice, belonging, and sustainability.
We curate and produce festivals, exhibitions, workshops, and public events while supporting artists and cultural practitioners in Helsingborg.
Nurturing Local Voices
We support the growth of local artistic practices, with a special focus on queer, Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and immigrant communities in Helsingborg. Through mentorship, creative space, and public visibility, we support underrepresented artists in developing their work and connecting with broader audiences. We believe in building ecosystems where everyone’s story matters and creativity is a shared resource.
Advocating for Democracy and Solidarity
We create cultural platforms that stand for freedom of expression, social justice, and solidarity. By amplifying voices at the margins and breaking down barriers to participation, we utilize art as a tool to challenge isolation, foster dialogue, and strengthen democratic values in everyday life.
Bridging Art and Climate Action
We explore climate, sustainability, and ecological questions through the lens of culture. By bringing together artists, activists, scientists, and neighbors, we create spaces for participation and imagination. Together, we turn urgent environmental issues into cultural experiences that inspire awareness, care, and change.
Elevating Youth Voices for Meaningful Change
We work with young people as co-creators, opening space for creativity, expression, and connection. Through workshops and cultural exchanges, we address challenges like social exclusion and digital dependency. We invite them to take part in shaping both the program and the space, contributing their ideas, energy, and perspectives.
